ELA

HMH Into Literature is an English language arts program for grades 6–12 that uses a variety of texts to help students develop critical reading, writing, and communication skills:

Math

Illustrative Mathematics (IM) 6–8 Math is a problem-based curriculum for grades 6–8 that helps students learn math by solving problems in real-world and mathematical contexts:
Learning by doing, Research-based instruction, Diverse representations, Warm-ups and cool-downs, Cool-down supports

Science

Amplify Science is based on research about teaching and learning. It's designed to be flexible and can work with a variety of technology environments. In schools with 1:1 device programs, students can use their devices daily.

Social Studies

The goal of social studies is to make sure that all students graduate from high school prepared for college, a career, and a future as a productive adult.
Students use rich content, themes and big ideas to learn history, geography, economics, civics, citizenship and government. They also use important skills to “think like historians.”

Social Emotional Learning

Brain Power Wellness It allows students to take a brain break whenever they need to. Then refocus their mind to better learning throughout the school day.
Whole-Child Approach All brain break activities can be individual, pair, or group. It allows students to have “me” time and build teamwork. Brain Power gives the opportunity to our students to relax physically and emotionally.

Regents

At MS 428, we hold our scholars to the highest standards and believe in each and every student. That is why, in Eighth Grade, all students are given the opportunity to partake in High School level NY State Regents Exams. Students who pass the exams offered will gain High School credits and will be exempt from taking the exam in High School.

MLLs

At MS 428, we believe everyone can learn. Our school offers a variety of programs and instruction to support our English Language Learners.
As a school, we are committed to develop dual language Chinese and dual language Spanish programs to provide our elementary schoolers the continuous pathway to achieve NYS Seal of Biliteracy.

Special Education

Currently, we have Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) class at MS 428.
ICT is a classroom model that combines students with and without Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in the same classroom. The goal of ICT is to provide students with IEPs the special education services they need while still being included with their peers.
