HMH Into Literature is an English language arts program for grades 6–12 that uses a variety of texts to help students develop critical reading, writing, and communication skills:

  • The program uses a combination of classic and contemporary texts to engage students.

    • Sign posts: Help students read observantly and think about their responses
    • Essential questions: Anchor each unit and prompt students to think about the text
    • Engage Your Brain activities: Get students sketching, writing, and discussing key ideas
    • Choices activities: Give students the opportunity to choose how they demonstrate their understanding
  • Assessment
  • The program includes formative assessments, peer reviews, and Reflect on the Unit questions.
  • Teacher tools
  • Teachers can use differentiation tools and unit planning guides to tailor the unit to their students' needs.
  • Support
  • The program includes selection summaries in multiple languages, as well as multilingual glossaries of literary and informational terms.

The goal of ICT is to provide students with IEPs the special education services they need while still being included with their peers. </p> <p> In an ICT classroom, two teachers work together to teach the same curriculum and meet the needs of all students: </p> <ul> <li><strong>Teachers:</strong> One teacher is a general education teacher, and the other is a special education teacher.</li> <li><strong>Students:</strong> Up to 40% of the students in the class may have IEPs.</li> <li><strong>Curriculum:</strong> The curriculum is the same as in other classrooms of the same grade.</li> <li><strong>Instruction:</strong> The teachers adapt materials and modify instruction to ensure all students can participate.</li> </ul> </div> <!-- Right Side: PDF Embed --> <div style="flex: 1; border-left: 2px solid #eee;"> <iframe src="https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/686d758dee8f0fdd31678f41/68a4d45399c6969d491613ef_68elastandardsglance.pdf" width="100%" height="100%" style="border: none; min-height: 100vh;"> </iframe> </div> </div>
